YYC Tech Gives
Volunteering time and tech skills to help make giving back easier and more impactful.
YYC Tech Gives is a collective of Calgary-based tech companies that raise money for the Calgary Food Bank every holiday season. As a volunteer web lead, I manage the organization’s digital presence—ensuring it looks polished, performs smoothly, and communicates the group’s mission clearly.

My Role
As the sole website manager, I take on a blend of UX design, front-end updates, and stakeholder communication. Every year, the site is refreshed for the campaign season, and I coordinate updates across teams of sponsors, media, and volunteers.
Key responsibilities:
Maintaining and updating the live site throughout the campaign
Designing new homepage banners, sponsor sections, and CTAs
Ensuring content is clear, accurate, and aligned with brand tone
Collaborating with volunteer committees and responding to last-minute content needs
Overseeing hosting and deployment (Webflow to Netlify handoff in earlier stages)
Providing technical support when needed
Impact
Since I joined the project, I’ve:
Reworked the homepage layout for clearer donation calls-to-action
Designed and deployed seasonal refreshes that boosted clarity and credibility
Helped standardize sponsor asset formatting to speed up onboarding
Maintained the site across changing teams while reducing technical bottlenecks
Complete website re-design
Working on YYC Tech Gives lets me combine my design and development skills for a good cause. It's also taught me how to manage a project that’s high-stakes (short fundraising windows) but fully community-driven.
Reflection
Contributing to YYC Tech Gives has been a meaningful and rewarding experience. It’s taught me to:
Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
Balance consistency and creativity within an evolving nonprofit brand
Manage digital assets and timelines with limited resources
Each year, the campaign grows—and I’m proud to help support it behind the scenes.
